Moto Z will replace the the Moto X line

Category : Uncategorized

Say farewell to the Moto X. In its place rises the Moto Z, which will be the new top-of-the-line smartphone from the Lenovo subsidiary.

According to a VentureBeat report, the Moto Z line will arrive with two different smartphones codenamed Vector Thin and Vertex. The former will be the more premium Moto Z Style while the latter will go by Moto Z Play. They’ll be a pair of 5.5-inch phones that will presumably be differentiated by camera capabilities and other specs.

That’s not the only changes slated for Motorola’s lineup. According to the report, the Verizon-branded Droid Turbo and Droid Maxx follow-ups will get some type of renaming scheme: think “Moto Z Play Droid Edition.”

In another branding move, modular backplates like a pico projector, stereo speakers, and camera grip with an optical zoom lens will be sold as “MotoMods.”

We should get all the details at Lenovo TechWorld in San Francisco, which we’ll be covering on June 9.

Why this matters: Lenovo is putting a firm stamp on its ownership of Motorola. The new Moto G4 lineup is a little confusing, so we’ll have to see if the shakeup across all the different devices turns out to be successful or if this goes in the direction that other companies have taken in confusing their customers wi
th excessive options.
