Samsung phone with bendable screen may launch next year

Category : Uncategorized

Samsung-LogoThe next smartphones from electronics giantSamsung could feature a bendable screen.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung may roll out smartphones using the technology next year. Citing “people familiar with the matter,” the report says one of the devices could fold in half like a compact.

A second device will feature a 5-inch screen as a phone, and expand to an 8-inch screen in a tablet form.

Samsung is familiar with the bendable screen, launching the Galaxy Edge smartphone featuring a touchscreen that curves on to the side. If true, this next phase would mark a huge step forward for touchscreens.

The smartphone business could use an injection of life with signs of a slowdown approaching. Internet analyst Mary Meeker projects smartphone sales to rise 21%, slower than the 31% growth rate from the year before.

Moto Z will replace the the Moto X line

Category : Uncategorized

Say farewell to the Moto X. In its place rises the Moto Z, which will be the new top-of-the-line smartphone from the Lenovo subsidiary.

According to a VentureBeat report, the Moto Z line will arrive with two different smartphones codenamed Vector Thin and Vertex. The former will be the more premium Moto Z Style while the latter will go by Moto Z Play. They’ll be a pair of 5.5-inch phones that will presumably be differentiated by camera capabilities and other specs.

That’s not the only changes slated for Motorola’s lineup. According to the report, the Verizon-branded Droid Turbo and Droid Maxx follow-ups will get some type of renaming scheme: think “Moto Z Play Droid Edition.”

In another branding move, modular backplates like a pico projector, stereo speakers, and camera grip with an optical zoom lens will be sold as “MotoMods.”

We should get all the details at Lenovo TechWorld in San Francisco, which we’ll be covering on June 9.

Why this matters: Lenovo is putting a firm stamp on its ownership of Motorola. The new Moto G4 lineup is a little confusing, so we’ll have to see if the shakeup across all the different devices turns out to be successful or if this goes in the direction that other companies have taken in confusing their customers wi
th excessive options.

This story, “Report: Moto Z will replace the the Moto X line” was originally published by Greenbot.

Android OS.

Category : Uncategorized

Android 3D LogoReleased in September 2008, Android is an operating system based on the Linux kernel with a user interface that allows for direct manipulation. It was designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablet computers with variants for television, cars and wristwear.

The operating system uses a virtual keyboard, as well as touch inputs that correspond to real-world actions, like swiping, tapping, pinching and reverse-pinching to manipulate on-screen objects. Although the Android operating system was designed primarily for touchscreen input, it has also been used in television, game consoles, digital cameras and other electronic devices.

Android’s source code is released by Google under open source licenses. The operating system was initially developed by Android, Inc., which Google backed financially and then bought in 2005. Since 2008, Android has been updated every six to nine months. In June 2014, Google announced that there were over 1 billion active monthly Android users.

Lenovo’s Y70 Touch

Category : Uncategorized

The laptop is evolving in a hundred different directions, and where it ultimately ends up is something that will be decided by you and every other PC user. This evolution began with the advent of Windows 8 and its touch-friendly interface, for which we’ve seen all kinds of new designs emerge, everything from the funky to the funktastic. Lenovo, now the top PC supplier in the world, hasn’t been afraid to experiment with different form factors and features, hence the company’s Yoga line and, in a more traditional sense, the Y70 Touch being reviewed here.

Lenovo’s Y70 Touch isn’t a wild departure from the laptop designs you’re used to seeing. In fact, it mostly looks like an average notebook, only sleeker and slightly more aggressive than most. But unlike that aging Windows 7 or Vista laptop you’re using, the Y70 Touch boasts a 17.3-inch Full HD 1080 (1920×1080) multi-touch display. It’s Lenovo’s largest touchscreen laptop to date, and it’s built for gaming, video editing, and to be an all-around work horse for the modern era.
